Just Beyond The Bridge

Dream Readers Wanted

Thursday, February 23, 2006

I never dream at uni. A strange observation I made over Christmas this year when I was back at home and noticed the only times I ever dream are when I am in my 'real' bed. However, last night broke the rule, and it did so spectacularly.

Last night my particularly vivid imagination conjured up me sitting at a street bar or cafe at the top of a hill with my family. Suddenly I see a strange elephant-headed animal run across the street. It disappears out of view behind the back of one of the people at the table, then reappears to scurry up a fairly concealed pathway amongst some greenery. If this isn't strange enough, another two appear, just as before and do exactly the same thing.

Next I'm inside with everyone (inside what, I don't know) and there is a crocodile, or it could be an alligator sitting on the floor. Naturally no one is too pleased to see it and there is a lot of running about and jumping on furniture to avoid it. It's chasing us all around until I find a very large kitchen knife. The crocodile gets up on its hind legs briefly and lunges at me. Towering above me, I hold the knife out in front of me with both hands (which now looks smaller, but sharper) and the croc drops forward and would have landed right on top of me if it hadn't fallen onto the outstretched knife, skewering itself completely.

I woke up in a cold sweat, two seconds before my alarm went off. What's that all about then? Anyone understand dreams? Am I regailing a previous life as Saint George?

hi andy,

my sister used to dream during some time of killing my mum. so my mum went to a psycologist-friend who told her that normally you have to look for the opposite sense of the dream to find its true meaning. in my sisters case, the point was that she was worried about leaving home and breaking some-sort-of-mom-daughter-knot.

however, in your case it may be a bit more difficult to find inverse meanings.

your blog really helps me in the last 30 minutes of job,  specially when i gotta keep on taking mortages details at 20:27 friday. good luck in your dream search,

luis

Luis,

I am not truly sure what the inverse meaning of my dream is. It might translate that I am kind and gentle to small non-amphibious creatures like hamsters. This however, makes as little sense as the original dream.

I am glad that you people from Spain take the time out to read my blog, although that wouldn’t happen in England as we all work really hard. Unless you’re called Devito. Or Swanny. Or any of my housemates.

Glad to hear someone got a really crap mortgage deal because you got distracted by my ramblings, although it was a bit evil making you work until 9pm.

I’ll catch you soon mate,
Avoid any alligators,

Andy.

Hi Andy,
Great use of your blog.
I’ve been reading dreams for the past 20yrs. Thought I’d have a crack at this for you.  Let me know what you think.

This dream reflects strongly that at the time you didn’t have a lot of self confidence. Clearly states that you were spending a lot of time trying to fend off rejection by doing and saying things to be accepted by your peer group. Being with your family represents a need within you to accepted for who you are not what you are. This dream focuses heavily on you thinking that you have to remember everything consciously when you don’t (my bet is it was around exam time)The croc tells me that you are very good with words a good communicator but you are scared to be yourself in case you say something that makes you unliked or rejected. The knife shows that you are developing and refining that part of yourself….coming into your own as a person so to speak. You are fighting your fears of failure and rejection in this dream. This dream indicated that there is an imbalance in priorities and the body needs more exercise…the mind needs a bit of a rest.

On the other hand it could be what I refer to as a “pissed” dream….thats where you’ve been out drinking come home drunk and fall back into boy hood fighting dragons. Let me know what you think.
