Hot Fuzz.

I don’t think I can be any clearer about my view of Simon Pegg’s latest film; if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, it doesn’t matter – this film is fantastic.

I’m not posting any spoilers here, but if you want to see the thing 100% fresh then I’ll let you pass on this post (until you’ve seen it).

A brief outline of what you can expect is an unimportant plot, a clever subterfuge of popular culture (Pegg’s trademark), an amalgamation of all-action-meets-spoof-horror-meets-comedy and a smorgasbord of some of the best in British comedy.

You also get some fantastic lines, wildly imaginative action sequences and a very decent production quality. I even left the cinema a little out of breath – unusual for a British film. It was the most I’ve laughed out loud in a cinema since I sneezed out my milkshake in the middle of the last Austin Powers film.

Funnily enough, I recommend you buy a ticket to see Hot Fuzz this week.

Although it was funny, I thought it was a little over the top towards the end. Some very funny scenes and dialog. Both obvious and subtle nods to popular culture and films… some too subtle I’m sure I missed quite a few… 8/10

Trev – I agree about the OTT nature of the end part of the film, but I couldn’t help grinning through that the whole way through. I felt that it was intentional, and probably my favourite part of the whole experience. Likewise, I think I probably missed quite a few nods.

Paul – sorry to hear that mate… swings and roundabouts I suppose… :)

Andy, i can’t help thinking that this is another “Shaun of the dead” i look at the HF trailer and see this.. and im coming to learn that trailers realy do represent movies (at the moment).. if its good, it looks fantastic as a trailer, but if its bad, it looks bloody awful and cheezy – i look at hot fuzz and see shaun of the dead 2.0 and think, ill down load it an then not be dissapointed i spent 4.. maby £5, on waisting my time at the cinema….

Paul, if ur on a mac, sort ur self out with aquisiton..

Gaz, I think the best thing to do is accept it in it’s own right – don’t look at it like a sequel. Pegg’s humour is always going to be the same, but I’d much rather they did this and change the genre than create something that is meant to be a SOTD 2 (which this isn’t). Try and ignore the similarities.

I haven’t seen it yet but I expect nothing less from the Pegg/Frost/Wright combo. I doubt anything they do will top Spaced (other than maybe a third series) but I’ll wager that it’s the best film to come out of our humble isle this year.

I really wouldn’t be surprised Sam. I can’t say much in the way of true British film has inspired me recently.
