The past few days I've been keeping my eye on my Google Analytics to see what my
spam-prevention methods have done for cleaning up my search engine placement. It looks to have been 100% successful
so far, but even if this doesn't work in the long run, I still have one more trick up my sleeve which I think
should be the mother of all solutions (at least on my little blog).
In trawling through the statistics I
discovered a couple of things that surprised me. A while ago I wrote a simple explanation (I hope) of feeds, with
the idea that if anyone wants to know what they are, they could get a decent version here. Well, hits have been low
on this particular article compared to others - forty or so views in the past month. I thought this might be higher.
Conversely another article I wrote on solving problems with stuck Macbook DVDs is, over the same time period,
attracting heavy traffic, with over eight pages of search engine results from hundreds of problem-stricken
Macbook/Macbook Pro owners.
I would hope that Apple might consider that as a reason to readdress the
technology in future models. It's not like it's a really awful problem, but it is apparently more widespread than
I might have imagined as my website statistics testify.
I'm still working on my CV and it looks like there is
a new project in the offing today as well. I'm feeling a little more settled about the situation now.

When I phoned up Currinsworthy today he was in a sailboat halfway between
Southampton and the Isle of Wight. Is this the life of an entrepreneur? He told me he'd been reading Richard
Branson (the short version - no time for longer tomes when you are on the international scene). Our chat lasted a
good half hour and scaled several topics from my current work situation, to his involvement with investors to my new
project and my new CV, which by the way is looking, err, different.
I read somewhere that one person once had
their CV printed on the side of a Space Hopper in order to create some interest at the design firm he was applying
to. I also heard another story about someone sending a box of egg shells with their credentials emblazoned upon
them. Unsurprisingly, neither of them got the jobs. Mine is slightly more tasteful I hope, although I am pushing the
envelope a little. More will be revealed soon if I don't get fed up and throw it all away.
Being one of the
last nights before people start disappearing off to their respective universities, Tom, Cuth, John, Liam, Steve and
myself went for a balti in Wollaston yesterday evening. The place was called Karma, and although laced with the
finest fibre optical lighting and blue/pink uplighters, I wasn't overly impressed. Food was OK, service was slow
yet we were the only people in there between the time we arrived and left (work that mystery out) and I didn't get
asked if there was anything I would like to eat (which I often feel is one of the main reasons for going out for
food in the first place).
Today has brought much juggling of priorities although I'm still not feeling 100%
happy with progress. I lack the impetus that comes with being given deadlines; and all of the ones I have at the
moment seem to be floating about like crazed butterflies. People... give me dates!
The one day I am looking
forward to is September 12th... I've got this feeling
it's going to be just like unwrapping presents on Christmas day, except I won't get to keep anything, and if it's
like any other Apple event, the expectations of what are in the box will turn out to be totally misguided.
