Getting up at 4am in the morning is
never a pleasant experience, made worse by the fact you only got to bed at two, and even then you couldn't sleep.
This was my story this morning as I was awoken and told to get into the car for the ridiculous long journey down to
the south coast for a week's holiday in Newlyn, Cornwall.
By 7am, we had just got out of the house and I was
in a suitably foul mood for a person who only had two hours sleep, but knows that they could have had at
least four hours sleep and still have been ready to get into the car for leaving time had they been given the
opportunity.
It was a long drive. We stopped for breakfast at around 11am, which already felt like mid
afternoon. By 1pm we were well and truly lodged in the Saturday holiday traffic, made even grottier by the fact that
it was incredibly humid and all the seats in the car were occupied.
I was more than glad to climb into the
shower when we finally arrived at our rented accommodation up on the hill, overlooking the harbour. I was positively
overjoyed to discover that there is a free internet spot here as well (not that I'm intending on using it much;
this is a holiday after all), but also that I won the lots for the room with the best view in the house. Not that
I'll be seeing much of it... I think I need to catch up with six hours lost sleep.
James came over today. I have been waiting to purloin the
remaining missing photos from Australia off him, and thankfully he brought his USB drive full of the photos with him
for me to raid. Just over 1.5Gb of mine, so not really a small amount. It meant I could put the finishing touches to
a travel-DVD which I am quite impressed with. iDVD is really a great little program (even if it does rely on *spit*
templates). At least they are sexy Apple templates. The thought of WWDC is embarrassingly exciting.
I've also
been really pleased at the general reaction to Geek In The Park. I've
been pleased to see praise of the design from
all quarters, even the Russians
are getting in on the action (you'll need to run it through a translator).
We drove over to see John
after to ask whether he'd be interested in some lunch, but upon arrival discovered that only Ray and Helen
(his folks) were about, so we stopped for a social drink and to inspect Mr Dalton's handiwork on the
house.
Afterwards we continued on the original mission, meeting John at OSH where he is doing some decorating,
and had a some food at the Shrub (haunt of the OSH staff) before heading back home where the DVDs were passed over
to James.
This evening John and ended back in a pub, then another pub, then another, before calling it a
night. Despite the number of venues, it was all very relaxed as two days after the night with Rich, Wellsey and
Brits still leaves me feeling a little tender, if not out of pocket. I also managed to bump into Leo, Ross and Will
in town/pub; bit of an old skool reunion going on today.

Last night I went out for a 'few' drinks with
Chambers, Wellsey and Brits. John, Becky and Mike also made an appearance later in the evening and we had a pretty
good time getting merry and making a nuisance of ourselves.
This morning my head was sore, which isn't
particularly good if you have to be at a meeting with a client early afternoon. Thankfully by then I was feeling
much better by the time of the meeting (which incidentally was the second time I attended it. Confused? Yes I was for
ten minutes as I sat there yesterday afternoon wondering where everyone else was until I realised I was a day
early). We managed to hash out some improvements to the existing website, then I went on my way and checked out
what I should be doing with my finances down at the bank. I have decided to stop banking with HSBC as I really just
don't think they've got the customer-side sorted, and am taking the advice of this fantastic site (which I urge you to visit if you haven't seen it
before) to get the best out of my money.
I also gave Richbrown a call today. For those who don't know, Rich
works at a high profile ad agency in the City with an impressive repertoire, and being the sort of chap who is interested in high
profile ad agencies in the City, decided to take him up on the offer of some work experience at some point this
year. Should be awesome. Rich spends most of his time at TV ad shoots and working on their bigger accounts (Virgin
Atlantic, The Sunday Times etc) and knowing Rich, shadowing him will probably make for some interesting experiences.
It'll also give me an opportunity to try life in London, which I'd penned down for something I want to try out
this year. Good stuff.
