Just Beyond The Bridge

The Forger

Wednesday, September 06, 2006

When I phoned up Currinsworthy today he was in a sailboat halfway between Southampton and the Isle of Wight. Is this the life of an entrepreneur? He told me he'd been reading Richard Branson (the short version - no time for longer tomes when you are on the international scene). Our chat lasted a good half hour and scaled several topics from my current work situation, to his involvement with investors to my new project and my new CV, which by the way is looking, err, different.

I read somewhere that one person once had their CV printed on the side of a Space Hopper in order to create some interest at the design firm he was applying to. I also heard another story about someone sending a box of egg shells with their credentials emblazoned upon them. Unsurprisingly, neither of them got the jobs. Mine is slightly more tasteful I hope, although I am pushing the envelope a little. More will be revealed soon if I don't get fed up and throw it all away.

Being one of the last nights before people start disappearing off to their respective universities, Tom, Cuth, John, Liam, Steve and myself went for a balti in Wollaston yesterday evening. The place was called Karma, and although laced with the finest fibre optical lighting and blue/pink uplighters, I wasn't overly impressed. Food was OK, service was slow yet we were the only people in there between the time we arrived and left (work that mystery out) and I didn't get asked if there was anything I would like to eat (which I often feel is one of the main reasons for going out for food in the first place).

Today has brought much juggling of priorities although I'm still not feeling 100% happy with progress. I lack the impetus that comes with being given deadlines; and all of the ones I have at the moment seem to be floating about like crazed butterflies. People... give me dates!

The one day I am looking forward to is September 12th... I've got this feeling it's going to be just like unwrapping presents on Christmas day, except I won't get to keep anything, and if it's like any other Apple event, the expectations of what are in the box will turn out to be totally misguided.

Tiredness

Monday, September 04, 2006

For some reason my sleep pattern has gone beserk of recent, and have found it increasingly hard to keep my eyes open in the afternoons this past week. I find myself up until the early hours even on nights I'm not out and a complete lack of willpower is causing me to go to bed somewhere between 2 and 3am.

This is just a recent thing and I can attribute it to having a number of lye-ins recently, which ends up in a cyclical motion of feeling less tired at night, so staying up longer and wanting to sleep in more. Not having any early morning commitments during the holiday is also another factor.

Either way it's got to stop. I'm feeling driven to be creative, driven to learn new languages, driven to get really annoyed that MySQL apparently won't install on the WDM.

In the meanwhile I'll just moan about it and take out my frustration annoying the cat.

I have to admit when I found out that Steve Irwin had been killed this morning, I was more surprised than I would have thought I'd have been. Although I've always assumed that he would eventually succumb to some kind of serious injury (how can you fail to loose some part of your body doing that?), it's a real sadness and tragedy that someone who was so passionate about what he did and who provided such great entertainment to millions should simply vanish. It's compounded by the fact he leaves behind his wife and two young kids.

As a personal tribute, here is is an old photo that would never have otherwise have made an appearance. I assume that Steve would have wanted to go to a place where there are more salties than he could ever have dreamt of, and so I wish him an eternity of close run-ins and dangerous encounters with his favourite animals. I guess that is what he would have wanted most.

Darts King

Friday, September 01, 2006

The past two days have been pretty creative. I've been busy modelling new ideas and thinking about exactly how I am going to best excute them. It's an interesting process and I love doing this type of thing; unfortunately it can't last forever and soon I have to get back to the normal stuff.

I've been working on a small animation project for one client, and yesterday I finally got some indication of movement on another project, so hopefully I can get my teeth stuck into that soon.

Last night I went for a casual couple with the usual Crispin types. It was Tombell's 21st and so most of the Foster Crew turned up as well. It gave me a chance to demonstrate my level of flukiness at darts and catch up with some people I've not seen in a while.

Meanwhile, in Southend-on-Sea, Sean has managed to get well and truly done over on some hidden camera show. Apparently the episode will be shown on Bravo sometime in the new year, but even now Sean seems absolutely over the moon that he's "gonna be on telly".
