Just Beyond The Bridge

Top Of The World

Tuesday, June 14, 2005

Last year I made it a personal goal to visit the top of Towers before I left. Today I ticked it off the list.

I had to make a last minute scout around my department to find a tripod with a bubble level and eventually managed to borrow one off Russ; unfortunately I forgot to return it so I'm going to have to sort that out tomorrow. Besty met me up on my floor, and we joined the people from the Estates office and Media Services on West 21. For anyone who is interested, it's basically like another box room, empty, but with a vertical ladder almost immediately in front of the door. After climbing up here you end up in a little darkened room in the upper white roof cone, and then through a little door onto the roof. A small railing holds you back until you climb the ladder running up the side of the cone, which is caged in. The top is a flat felted roof with another railing running all around the outside edge. I noticed that after I set up the tripod that in between shots you could feel the lift motors turning beneath you; a low rumble as they moved up and down the tower.

I got 88 photos, mostly panorama compositions. I've been trying to get them to merge in Photoshop but have been encountering a few problems. I think I'll come back to it tomorrow.

I've also been cracking on with 'Lost'. Unfortunately I'm one episode short, which has halted my viewing, but I will complete the set tomorrow. That is a statement rather than a estimate, as otherwise I'm going to end up putting off doing any more work for another day.

'In Your Honour' arrived today. I've been looking forward to getting hold of a copy for days, but a visit by Richbrown and a hour long discussion on the finer points of the creative market delayed me loading it onto the World Domination Machine until after dinner.

The Swan has instructed me of his intention to go out tonight. Looks like as I have nothing better to do, I may have to join him.
